DEATH IN AN OFFICE.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)

NELSON, Monday.

Mr. W. A. Sham. district engineer, -was found lying dead in his office late this aftr-raoon. Kecently the business of his department lias been conducted at Tadnxor, where lie has been residing, but he was in town on New Year's Etc, and as his family are away, he evidently went to his town office last Monday night and slept there, intending to catch an early traiu on New Year's morning. He was subject to fits, and presumably had one during the night. There was much blood, beside the body, which is scarcely recognisable, having been in a hot, close room for a week. Mr. Sham had 'not been missed, as his family and friends believed he was at work in the "Upper Tadmor, and the people there thought he was\ detained in town. Thci Public Works town office is in the old post office buildings, and an officer of the Telegraph Department having occasion to enter an adjoining room, frJiis morning, noticed a dreadful stench,- but found no cause for it. Late this-' afternoon he again went to the office., and concluded that the cause of the s.tench was in the locked Public Works Office. He called the police, who broke opan the door, and made the discovery. I.'he doctor called in states that death resulted from a fit.
