HOME RULE FOR IRELAND.

MR DEVLIN'S RECEPTION

A meeting of sympathisers with the Home Rule movement was held ia the Marist Bros.' school last evening, with the object of arranging a fitting reception to Mr Joseph Devlin, the envoy of the. Irish Nationalist party. There was a large attendance, and the Hon. J. A. Tole presided. The Catholic Bishop (the Bight Rev. Dr. Len/han) and a number of the clergy were, among those present. The ehairma'n, in a short speeco, declared that tbe meetings so far held in the colony l\ad been successful from every point cf view, and there wene indications tha'c Uie meetings to be "held in the Auckland district would be. equally successful. The meeting in Ajuekiand city wil) be held on January 30. Xt was reported that the two theatres were bcoked for this date, and negotiations aro being made to secure ono of tide other halls. Mr M. J. Sheahan was appointed secretary, and Mr F. Moore treasurer. All present were constituted, a committee, and Dr. Stopford was elxateil 'ovjfing to Mr Tele's intejition to visit Cliristc.hurch. Tiae following executive committee was appointed:—Messrs P. Quinlan, J. J. O'Brien, M. Foley, P. J. Nerheny, P. M. Mad ray, D. Flynn. D. T. Carty, W. E. Kac'cett, 0. Higgins, J. Wright, F. Fitt, W. Tole, W. F. Jones, A. E. Skelton, and "P. i. Grace. The sum of £200 was subscribed at the meeting for presentation to Mr Devlin for the Home Rule cause.

WAIHI, this day.

On Saturday night the Very Rev. Father Brodie received a telegram stating- that Mr Joseph Devlin would speak in Waihi on January 2Sth. At a meeting yesterday it was decided to call a public meeting to-morrow night to make arrangements for his reception. At a meeting towards this cud £27 was subscribed.
