AUCKLAND PARLIAMENTARY AS SEMBLY.

The fifth .sitting of. the Auckland Parliamentary Assembly was held in the Eeya mstitute Jast evening. A fair number of members- were present,- and the strangers* gallery was also fully .occupied, . Mr C> _. Button ably discharged tho duties oi Speaker. The resignation of Mr Maxwell Walker. M.A. (late leader of the Opposition) from the Assembly was accepted with regret, and the announcement that a successor to him had been appointed in the person or Mr B. Aldridge was regarded With satisfaction. T_e evening was devoted to continuing the debate on the formation of an imperial Council, which was adjourned from last meeting. It will be remembered that at the last sitting of the House the proposition was regarded by all parties with satisfaction. Some objections to the actual phraseology of the resolution submitted by the Premier, however, were raised, and an amendment that the majority of the clauses be deleted was proposed and seconded. Very little discussion took place on the actual point at issue, members principally confining themselves to "Empire" talk and eulogising the usefulness of such a council as that proposed. Several spirited 6peecih.es were made,, and eventually the resolution as originally worded was carried. LOYAL GOOD INTENT LODGE, 4369, t M.U., 1.0.0. F. The quarterly meeting of the Loyal Good Intent Lodge was held In the Cook-street Hall on Monday evening, when a large number of members we're present. Bro. F. 3. Wh'eatley, P.P.G.M., on behalf of the lodge, presented Bro. J. AY. H. Tuekey. P.G.,- J with 'a ; handsomely framed " Tpast grand's emblem, on completion of his term of office, and in doing so referred In eulogistic terms to the manner ln which Bro. Tuekey had. worked.if or. the advancement .and prosperity of the lodge while in office. Bro. Wheatl'ey" also presented Bro. A. A. Buckley, P. 0., with a past grand's collar, as a reward for having- Introduced most new members during the previous twelve months, and referred in most complimentary terms to Bro. Buckley's zeal and energy-in-this-department of lodge work. Bros. Tuekey and- Buckley briefly thanked the lodge for the presentations. DUring the evening two candidates were initiated, making 14 for the quarter just closed.
