AUCKLAND BAPTIST TABERNACLE. Tie fifty-first anniversary of the foundation of Se Auckland Baptist '^befacle tiiw's, cbarch secretary, were also oni*e platform. In summarising, the year's work the secretary stated that the number on Se roll now 555, an increase of seven during the year, after allowing for deaths and transfers. The attendance at the Son rfflv «ervices -was about the same as mc * the Sunday-school ttere were 77 teachers and officers, aad « s «u» are on the roll. Of the scholars l<o were church members. Tiie Band of Hope had a nTimberSilp of 200, while the *em**sUip of Young People's Christian Bndeavonr Society totalled 121. The Missionary Society had also done good work, as also had the various other societies In connection with the church. A tender had been accepted for the erection of a jubilee at Hamilton, which would seat 135 persons. During the year the separate communion cup system foad been Introduced, and had .proved acceptable to members generally. During the year £791 was received in collections and donations, and £264 in connection with the jubilee account, ane total receipts for the year amounted to £1408 28/6. During tie evening addresses suited to the occasion were given by the Revs. "Williams, Dixon. Wylie and Pastor Clark, and the choir contributed several excellent musical items. ■PRUTE-STANT- iDKFKNCE ASSOCIATION. The meeting held on Tuesday evening in the Protestant Hail, Newton, took the form of a social for the members.and their friends. Mr Chae. «Watt, president, occupied the chair, and ehort addresses were given by him and the liev. J as. Wilson, vice-president. Songs, recitations, and instrumental solos were contributed by several friends, and refreshments handed round at 9 p.m., after which an address was given by Mr ''Graham. _~.._ UNITED CRICKJBT CLUB. The annual- meeting of the United CO. was held on 17th met., Sir F. J. McGuire in the chair. The balance-sheet, which showed the club to be in a good .financial position, was unanimously adopted, together with a special vote of thanks to the committee for its report. The following officers were elected: — President, Mr A. Myers; vice-presidents, Messrs A. Bagnall, Powell, Hobday, McDermott, J. .1. Craig, and Chittley; hon. secretary, Mr Geo. A. Parkc; assistant secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Wilson; delegates, Messrs Geo. A. Parke and Stewart, sen.; aaainnan, Mr V. J. McGulre. The election of committee was held over for a fortnight. Trophies for the best batting and bowling averages were presented, to Messrs W. Tongue and K. Kowlatt respectively by the chairman on behalf of donors. cokomanlhsl court* council.. The Coromandel County Council met on Tuesday. A motion was earned in favour of a national memorial to the late Mr K. J. Seddon. It was decided to apply to the Minister for Public Works for a grant of £1000 to construct a bridge across the Manala Kiver on the main Thames-road. A request will also be made to. the Premier to have telephone communication between Cabbage Hay and Port Charles. The Council resolved that a circular be Issued Inviting all County Councils to co-operate in gettins a law passed Imposing a tax. (say) or £10 per annum on all retail canvassers going from' house to house for orders. POTJLTKY ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Auckland and Suburban Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association was held on Tuesday evening, Mr c Grey presiding over an attendance of about 40 members. The annual report stated that four North Island championships were competed for at the laet show, aud were won by Messrs V. B. Lovelock, J. M. Thomson (2), and K. G. Houghton, for bun* Orpingtons, Norwich plainhead canaries, Norwich crested canariee, and Yorkshire canaries respectively. The entries at the last show constituted a cord, and the opinion of the judges was that the Mrds exhibited wore of the highest class. The treasurer's report showed a credit balance of £45 10/4, while the associaassets were valued at JC;!t;i2. The president, in moving the adoption of the report, stated that the club was greatly indebted to the generous support of the public. Mr Grey was unanimously re-elected president, ami the following officers wero also elected:—Vice-presidents, Messrs J. B. Tonar, Clem. Bartley, A. Hedley, J. B. i>aterson, W. Griffiths, W. The meeting decided that local judges be secured for the next show. ST. MATTHEWS HALL. An entertainment in aid of the church funds was given in St. Matthew's Hall ou Tuesday. There was a large attenddance. The first part of the entertainment consisted of an interesting aeries of living pictures, which were exhibited by Mr C. Cooper. This was followed by a "Women's Parliament," in which some 30 ladies from Remuera and Epsom took part, under .the management of Mrs Cummins. The debates caused much amusement, and Parliament was adjourned amidst .the apiplause of .the audience. FRENCH CLTJB. The fortnightly meeting of the Auckland French Club was held in St. Paul's Schoolroom on Tuesday, M. R. Boeufve. presiding. The comedy, "Le Passage de Venus," was well acted by Messrs. Balham, Dxummond, Wallace, and Winter. Dr. Buffault gave an interesting description pf the last excavations at the Forum, and the disenssion on the subject "Axe Manners Degenerating?" was continued by Mr. T. Mahoney, and also by Mme. Boeufve, who declared that she had never at any time or in any country experienced greater courtesy than in N-ew Zealand. Mr S. J. Clarke aud Mr. M. Francis also spoke. The meeting was concluded with an extract from an article in "Le Temps," read by M. Boeufve on the subject under discussion. t , TAMAKI WEST MUSICAL SOCLE/TV. The Tamaki West Musical and Social.Club gave in interesting "Longfellow Evening" last Monday. TOe readings were excellently selected. Songs (glees, duets and solos) from Longfellow-were rendered durlug tne evening. The programme was as follows:— Glee, "Good Nigiht, Beloved"; reading, "The Three Singers," Misa.Atkln; duet, "Excelsior," Miss and Mr Wm. Maseey; readme, Courtship of Miles Standlsh,". Mrs Turnbull; song, "The Village Blacksmith," Mr Wm. Massey; reading, "King- - Robert of Sicily." Miss Moor; duet, "Friendship," Mrs Turnbnll aad Miss Jessie Brown; reading. , "The Legend Beautiful," Miss Pilkinj:ton; reading, "The I.act Meeting oi Evangelijß and Gabriel," Mr D. Chadwick Brown; soag, "Thy Remembrance," Miss Massey. PONSONBY SHAKESPEARE AND RHETORIC CLUB. There was a good attendance on Tuesday at the Club's reading of "The Tempest," which play, bristling with difficulties as it does, received a fairly good all round interpretation. Dr. H. V. Bamford-s Prospero, the all-dominating figure, was well thought out. and effectively sustained and he wns ably sustained by Miss 3. B. Russell as Miranda and Miss Eileen London as Artel. Mr G Maclean was a princely Ferdinand and Mr Hart's Stephano, and Mr W. Jowjtts Caliban were clever characterisations. ONE-TIUSE Blhh KUAo' BOARD. The One Tree Hill Board met on Tuearinv when Mr B.
