BOARD OF EDUCATION.
The following business was transacted yesterday afternoon:— Summer School.—On the reeomme-diatiou was decided to hold a summer school in natural history and handwork for oue -lonth, for the accommodation particularly of those teachers who were not able to reach other centres. The question of the time of closing the schools was referred to the director and the chief inspector. New Appointme-ts.— In view of the growth of the technical department, the director recommended the appointment of an assistant director at £350, rising by £20 per a_nu_i to £500; a science .master at £250: a woodwork instructor at £200; and an instructor in painting and decorating at £3 10/. with £40 for evening classes. The Chairman refenred to the possibility of obtain—lg some local man to fill these positions, particularly that of the science master. Mr George recommended that applications be called both in England and in the colony. He was also sure that the financial side presented no difficulty. The Board decided to agree to the proposal generally, leaving the adjustment of details to tho Chairman and the director.
