ROUND THE WORLD.
CARTER'S WALKING TOUR. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHBISTCHURCH, this day. Writing from Lagos in June, Mr. Kempthorne, brother of a Lyttelton resident, mentioned that he had met Carter "at Sierra Leone.'' He wrote: "We took aboard a man called Carter, a New Zcalander, who is walking round the world. He had come to there by ship from Gibraltar, via the Canary Islands, as xic had been allowed to go through Morocco. At Sierra Leone they would not let him proceed through Liberia, so he had to take ship to Lagos. From the last place it was his professed intention to walk up right into Northern Nigeria, and thence through Central Africa to the Cape-to-Cairo railway, and thence to Capetown and New Zealand. As events proved, however, on his arrival at Lagos Carter was not allowed to walk into Northern Nigeria, as the natives are now very restless, so he went back to Secondi to try to get through there. However, if ho attempts to do as he says, he stands a good chance of finishing his career. But that is his palaver. If all accounts are true, he has done some very good walking."
