I (By Telegraph.— Press Association.) A CHBISTCHURCH BANKRUPTCY. CHRISTCUURCH, Friday. The first meeting of the creditors of William Maine, jun., bootmaker, was held at the official assignee's office this afternoon. Mr Francis appeared for the bankrupt. There wore eight creditors pesrnt or represented. The statement iiled showed unsecured creditors £11,56,". 19/S, and assets £13.514 11/6, leaving a surplus of £1048 11/10. Maine was adjudicated a bankrupt on the petition of Bowron Bros., whose claim was £10.700, After his refusal to enter into an agreement whereby the business wonld be controlled by them until the amount was liquidated. A motion was adopted giving Maine the option of purchasing the business at 16/ in the £, failing which Bowron Eros, offered to par the creditors 14/ in the £ and take over the estate. BREAKING AND ENTERING. DUXEDIN, Friday. At the Police Court to-day Henry Anderson was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence on a charge of breaking and entering and stealing, pleading- guilty after hearing the evidence. A companion named P. Wiberg, who had pleaded guilty to the- same charges, was sentenced to three years , a few days ago. A third man, named I Cole, is awaiting trial for the offence. ' YViber" and Anderson both declare that ' Cole was not concerned in the robbery, and that he only pawned some of the jewellery stolen on being assured it ■ I Was all right. The three men only re- • cently arrived from Lyttelton, and say '■ they "have been on coasting craft trad- ■ ing out of that port for many years.
