The examination of Henry .laiaes Stephens, one of the members ef the firm of Stephens. Miller aud Adrian,, forraerly known as "Success Publishing C 0. .-, took plice in th? Bankruptcy Court, Sydney, recently. In answer tw questions, Stephens deposed that he joined Ralph Aileyne Miller in Marei or April. lyOo, to publiili & magazine, juad. to do tradinif in connection with it. The magazine was called ".Success." The paper consisted lurg&ly of adrertisements. The "MiUer Order Co." waa an advertiser, and offered to supply clothes at wholesale prices. The "'Success Co." was the "Miller Co." People used to send In orders, accompanied by remittances, and Miller, as one af the employees, would buy the article asked for at a wholesale, house, sometimes on credit, and send it on. The profit they were supposed to get was from 10 to 50 per cent. The Miller Mail Co. offered ta supply suits of clothes for £2 2/, and to give a suit rase iv. The suit cases cost 1/6 each They offered prizes under what they called the "Head and Hand Competition." Sometimes they awarded prizes to contributions they wrote themselves. Another time they said a £10 prize was won by Mr. J. C. Wright, of Chappie-street, Broken Hill, and there was no eueh person, and the prize was never paid. Another £10 waa won by "Miss Gertie Laing," and she took £1 in full payment. Afterwards they though it wiser to have a fictitiom winner. The examination was adjourned.
