Gillies, subscribed for by the members of I ■ the Auckland Golf Club, was unveiled in j I : the club's pavilion at Cornwall Park links ,I on Saturday afternoon, in the presence of I i a large number of members and friends, j ' ! The handsome bronze plate, which has j ■ i been designed by Mr Arnold, is to bear j i; iv silver lettering the names of New Zea- . land golf champions from 1905, the first I ' i name inscribed being Mr Arthur Duncan. ! ! The unveiling ceremony was performed by ! I the Hon. Seymour Thorne George, who ! ; said the late Mr Gillies might he termed the father of gob! in Auckland. He was ; ; always struck with the zeal and energy r i displayed by Mr Gillies for the sport- Ho ; , j was not satisfied with the small courses , »I ia the Domain and at Green Lane, and at I 5 last induced the club to start upon its j a present admirable Links.
