(To the Editor.) Sir.—l have but seen this once, chancing to pass by, and did not admire the planning of the cart access. Surely a, throughout way might hare been provided. However (this by the way), as to the exhaust steam. I should lon«r since have either put this into the stack at its level, or into the sewers, unless anybody wanted a good supply of hot water; but all this is nothing if the blessed thing is to stop each feWmonths. Where is the use of talking of electrical generation if this is to be? Surely this was never intended, and in any case'it should be duplicated in its wearing part at once; and it may be more consideration given to the kind of brick used for the lining. I ani not acquainted with the condition in the chamber of full ignition, whether similar to that of a cupola, or copper furnace and iron puddling furnace fall of which, with others, differ), and may point out in Great Britain we have firebricks of different districts in Scotland, the Tyne s Shipley district (Yorkshire). Stoiirbridge South Wales (Dmas, etc.). .Sheffield (GanisteV bricks), all of which are firebricks, but quite differently suitable for furnace -work. As an instance of what I mean, no sane man would use the Dmas brick toi a black" aeti fumaoe.—l jua,<te., 'J- CLARE,
