THE CHILDEN'S HOME.
(Tβ the Editor.) Sir, —Again that -wonderful organiser. Sister Cecil, of the Children's Home, Ayr-street, Parnell, reminds us of the : wants of her little flock. I was present at St. Mary's Parish Hall on Saturday at the sale of work, in -which she was principally helped by members of the Parnell 6ui]d, and, indeed, to their assistance she mainly attributes the measure of success achieved, Uowever, when we consider the number of friends from the city. Ponsonby, Remuera, Epsom, even Onehunga and Otahuhu, -who were present, we see that it is clearly recognised that the work so successfully undertaken is by no means a parochial one, and it is increasing , day by day. There are now thirtyseven children in the home; there is no endowment and there is no debt. In this, one may see a model that many more ambitious undertakings might -well ' copy. A little cash, managed in the i tmost economical style, there is the 1 secret. The building, old and unsuitable, and without the more modern appliances now usually considered indispensable, has been within the past few ' days improved to the extent of floor- ' ing the children's playroom and building a bedroom for the principal—this last because the doctor prononced the present room unfit for anyone to sleep in. The timber for these additions. I am informed,, has ibeen contributed by •some of the timber merchants and the labour is to be .paid for by the takings of the present sale of work, amounting to £29. Not much, is it? But tbe children are evidence enough that happiness does not consist in the possession of great riches. Their white frocks, and tidy appearance, we, of course, might expect on such an occasion, but the beautiful healthy comiplexdons and cheerful expressions could not be arranged for an exhibition. Let us only hope that there are warm blankets enough to cover these thirty-seven little ones in the comin" winter.—l am, etc., A SYMPATHISER.
