PARNELL ORPHAN HOME.
TO BE REBUILT AT PAPATOETOE.
The Trust * Board of the Parnell Orphan Home have finally decided, to erect the new orphanage on a site of their own, having been unable to secure the freehold of the old site. With this end they have been looking out for a suitable spot out of the town, to enable" the children to receive practical instruction, .in agricultural pursuits, in addition to the various trades. . As a result a well-situated farm Of 86 acres has been purchased at Papatoetoe for £33 per acre, the cost amounting to £2838. In preparing plans for the erection of the new building at Papatoetoe, although only the accommodation of 60 children will be provided for at the outset, provision will be made for extension to enable the accommodation of twice that number. One main building will be erected, and two subsidiary buildings, one for boys and the other for girls. It was decided at a meetin« of the Board yesterday that for 'the future the standard of education at the orphanage should ""he as nearly as possible like that of the State schools, with the addition of religious instruction. Greater attention, will be paid, however, to. industrial .training, including carprarterrng, gardening, laundry. work* etc.
