BIRKENHEAD AND NORTHCOTE FRUIT-GROWERS , ASSOCIATION

The twentieth, annual meeting of this association -was held in the Wesleyan Schoolroom, Birkenhead, last evening. There -was a large attendance. The president <Mr W. CKarman) occupied the chair. Correspondence -was read from the Auckland Fruitgrowers' Union re postponing the winding-up of the proposed co-operative fruit cannery until Mr W. A. Boucher had interviewed the growers on the subject. A letter was also read with regard to the revision of Customs tariff, and it was decided to hold a special meeting on May 7th to deal with this matter. The incoming committee was instructed to revise the rules and submit printed copies of the same at an ordinary general meeting for confirmation. The annual report, read by the secretary (Mr Allan Wilson), stated that the membership stood at 54, an increase of 15 new members. The annual show, which was held in February last, was an excellent one. extending over two days. The prize offered for the commit-tee-man who collected the most prizemoney for the show fell to Mr J. C. F. Rennie. The show receipts were the highest in the history of the association. The picnic to Motutapu was somewhat spoilt by adverse weather, but the committee were compensated by a small credit balance accruing from "the sale of tickets. The report concluded by urging the growers to combine and endeavour to launch out as a commercial society, import their own manures, and obtain articles necessary for the welfare of the growers generally at a reduced rate. The treasurer's report showed that tie receipts for social vere £6 3/2, and expenses £3 3/2, leaving a balance lof £3. Show receipts, £78 17/3; expenses, £64 9/5; balance, £14 7/10. Annual picnic receipts, £22 13/6: expenditure, £17 11/6; balance, £5 2/. The general statement showed a credit of £3 10/OJ, whilst the total receipts for the year were £ 123 and the total expenditure of £96 16/9, leaving a credit balance, of £26 3/10$. Both Teports were unanimously adopted. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: Patrons, the Hon. E. Mitchelson, Messrs. A. M. Myers, X W. Alison, M.H.R., J. Bollard, M.H.E., H. Brett, and the Mayor of Birkenhead; president, Mr W. Charman: vice-presidents, Messrs. W. Low and J. C. ¥. B.ennie; secretary, Mr Allan Wilson: treasurer. Mr H. Day; librarian, Mr Allan Wilson: committee, Messrs. F. A. Pitt, Thos. Church, R Shepherd, D. Swindail, E. Swindai], B. H. Clow, F. Pugh, R. Hulme, R. F. Kay, E. Edmunds, Jas. Cuthbert, R. Jones, F. Robertson, R. Hazelwood, Jno. Blake, and Geo. Charman.
