THE SHAREMAKKET. The market closed very firm at noon to-day. Investment stocks generallyhad steady demand at late rates, but the only sales reported were in Auckland Gas at 298/, and Devonport Ferry at 36/. In mining shares an upward move took place in Waiotahis, sales being made from 118/ to 119/6. Aucklands also firmed, being sold at 1/9 and 1/IC. and Waihi shares moved up a shilling, sales taking place at 145/ and 145/6, with further buyers at the latter price. Kuranui-Caledonian shares sold at 3/3, 3/4, and 3/3, with buyers left at 3/2. May Queens firmed owing to picked stone being reported, and were wanted at 5/2. New Moanataiari shares were also firmer, being asked for at 2/, at .which figure small parcels were sold. Omahu contributing shares sold at. 1/4, and- Waihi- -Extendeds at 0/3. Talisman shares -were easier today, being sold, at- .01/9 and 31/. PUBLIC BATTERY FOR KUAOTUNU. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) COROMANDEL, this day. The. following tenders have been received by Mr J. Coutts, mining inspector, for the removal of the Macaronis battery from Matamataharakiki, and reerected at Kuaotunu as a public crushing plant:—Chas. E. T. Simpson, Kuaotunu, £269; Moore and Jamieson, Coromandel, £275; John C. Fraser. Coromandel, £300. WAIHI RETURN. £54,310 FOR THE MONTH. The return from the Waihi mine for the three weeks of January was an excellent one, £54,310 being obtained from 23,294 tons of ore. This brings up the total output to £4,603,644.
