THE TECHNICAL SCHOOL.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —A visit to the admirable exhibition of students' work at the Technical School is something that a ve.ry large proportion of ttie Auckland public are missing. I think the Auckland public can hardly be aware that there is ench. an exhibition being held in our midst. The Auckland Technical School certainly justifies its existence, as the progress made by the students during the two years of its life does them and their teachers infinite credit, a.nd must be immensely beneficial to them in after life. I suppose we may look for- ] ward in the near future to having a j more pretentious building, now that we have a Government grant of £4000 for the purpose. The increase of students from 30 to nearly 800 speaks volumes for the institution and its staff of teachers, and the exceptionally high per centage of passes obtained by tbe plumbers in the recent London examination also reflects very great credit upon all concerned, and augurs well for the future excellence of our locau plumbing work. It is rather a pity that there are no cooking exhibits, or at any rate, a cooking demonstration every afternoon and evening while the exhibition lasts. The.girls are now having their school vacation, and could, I imagine, spare the necessary time. It seems to mc the exhibition, good as it undoubtedly is, would be appreciably improved by the addition of a cookery demonstration, and tbe interest and attendance of the general public largely increased thereby. Possibly next year when the new building is ready, and conditions more favourable, the staff will see th 3 advisability of adding a cooking demonstration.—l am. etc..° W. S. SMITH.
