THEATRE CRUSHES.
(To the Editor.) ' Sir,—-It is to be hoped that after tbe j scene outside the "early doors" at His ' Majesty's Theatre on the occasion of I tbe opening of the Knight-Jeffries' sea- i son the management or the Traffic In-1 spector or the police will take steps to I see that it is not repeated. With women ] screaming and fainting in the crush, j while a sort of free fight for front place ; was in progress, it is surely time some- j thing was done. Such scenes are a, dis- ■ grace to a city of Auckland's standing, j It was effectually proved during the | West-Brescian season at His Majesty's j that nothing more is required to run j the orderly queue system than one man's | attention. The public readily fall into i place when they understand the rule — | that is, if there is someone in charge. It j is noticeable that the police, lent their ; assistance when the management organ-1 ,ised the queue, but on their osj-n account ! make.no attempt at keeping order. ' An \ intimation in the management's advertisement that the queue system is to be enforced would simplify. matters. As far as Auckland authorities' are concerned it seems this/un-j seemly crushing may go on till some I serious accident occurs —such trivialities j as bruised limbs, lips skinned against-! the concrete walls, glasses broken on one's face, seem unworthy of notice save to the unfortunate sufferer, who j doubtless gives up theatre-going till such ! times as one can get a satisfactory place j without endangering life and limb.—l am, etc., L.C.S. . *
