ROAD BOARD MEETINGS.
BEMTFBRA. The Remuera Road Board met last night. Present: The Hon. E. Mitchelson (chairman), Messrs C. Ranson, Dicksou, and Dennistoii (clerk). Tramway Shelter Shede.—A communication was received from the managing director of the Auckland Electric Tramway Co. In reply to a letter from the Board, suggesting that the company erect shelter shede at certain of the stopping places, stating that he was not authorised to erect them without his directors' permission, but had written Home strongly recommending their erection.
Supply of Tar.—The secretary of the Auckland Gae Company wrote stating that in response to the Board's order, 8000 gals. of tar wouW be delivered at the same price as last year, 4d per gallon.
Removal of Cattle Saleyards.—A letter was read from the secretary of the Epsom Road Board drawing the attention of the Remuera Board to the resolution of the Epsom body that the saleyarde at the Junction Hotel and Remuera be removed as speedily as possible, the increasing population making the present sites unsuitable and dangerous to public safety.—Received.
Abattoirs.—lt was decided, in response to a letter from the Auckland Town Clerk (Mr H. W. Wilson) to agree to the adoption of the new city abattoirs as the recognised abattoirs for the Remuera district. Interest on Bank Accounts.—Tie Town Cleerk (Mr H. W. Wilson) wrote asking the co-operatUm of the Board towards the restoration of the old terms by banking iiistitntions to local bodies in respect to credit balances. No interest was now allowed by banks on credit balances. The Chairman remarked that the discontinuance of this interest was the result of the formation of a banking ring throughout the colony.. This meant that something like half a million wae lying In the banks of the colony belonging to local bodies and paying no interest. The Board would shortly hare between £100 000 and £150,000 tied up In this way without interest. It was resolved to co-operate with anything the Council did in the matter.
Road Sprinkling.—lt was decided to decline the offer of the Tram-way Company to sprinkle the roads with~"ari electric water sprinkler at a cost of 3/6 per mile for each sprinkling, ex-clnsrve of the cost of water The company stipulated a minimum of two sprinkles dally, the width of the roaS sprinkled being about 35 feet
Infections Diseases Hospital.—Messrs Dictson and Renson were appointed delegates to attend the conference of local bodies at the City Council Chambers on Friday, February 2nd, to consider the question of the maintenance of en Infliction* diseases hospital.
