A very enjoyable evening was spent listening to songs, etc, from members of the corps and therf friends, and an opportunity was taken to present the prizes won during the year to tlie winners. These were handed over to Bomhadier Fierce (Hallenstein clock.), Gunner Ueid (Burns' Cup), and Gunner Dickey (vernier for youngest shot in company), by Major Johnston, who commented favourably on their work, and also commended the sportsmanlike spirit which had induced Gunner Reid to represent the Burns Cup to the company after he had won it out. Various toasts were propose* and honoured, (Japtain Hazard proposing "The King," Captain Gardiner "The Army and JNavy," Lieut. Aylett "The Instructors," Sergeant-Major Jb*urdy "The Officers," and Lieut. Knyvett "The Press." Major Johnston, replying to "The Army and .Navy" toast, announced that the company had won a thirdclass position for efficiency, which, owing to the high standard of efficiency required was creditable. Subsequently it was explained that the company esteemed the best in the colony had bee 3 rated in the test as second class, there being as yet no first class rank rewarded. The .No. 9 Company missed obtaining a second-class by a few points. As to the entertainment, - Gunner Wright, who also played the accompaniments well, and Gunner Barth played a piano and violin overture; songs were sung by G-imner S. JVI. Withers, Sergt. Bickerton, Corp. Bickerton, Gunners Hamlan, Williaans, Burgess, and Messrs Barchard and Homer; whistling solos by Gunner Aylett, and a narrative by Ldeut. Knyvett. A special "bus conveyed the visitors to Devonport and the wharf after the social, which was pronounced a complete success, it should also be mentioned that the big marquee was decorated with flags and foliage most artistically, the tables being decorated with covers of red, white and blue. The repast provided was excellent. The company struck camp this morning.
