JOHN BURNS GIVES EMPLOYMENT.
LONDON, January 26. The President of the Local Government Board (Mr. John Burns), on the suggestion of the Battersea Borough Council, has engaged 2000 of the unemployed on road-making.
[The action of the Liberal Minister reverses the policy of the Balfour Cabinet. Mr. Balfour strongly condemned the idea of finding work for the unemployed, as opposed to the proper functions of Government]
