UNIVERSITY COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the University College Council was held yesterday afternoon, for the purpose of considering the advisability of recognising the drawing classes of the Aucklaud Technical School as being affiliated with the University. Sir Maurice O'Rorke pieslded, the other members present being Messrs A. M. Myers, T. U. Wells, M.A., Hon. J. A. Tole, and Dr. McDowell.
Professor Brown,, who was present, explained that one of the subjects for passing ln engineering was drawing. Two of the University students had been attending drawing classes at the Technical School, in order to qualify themselves for the pass, as no Instruction in drawing was given by the University. Were the I Auckland Technical School not recognised by the University authorities, however,- these students would be practically disqualified. The instructor at the Technical School was a man holding high testimonials, and fully qualified to give the necessary Instruction. The Hon.. J., A. Tole questioned Whether the University of New Zealand would recognise the drawing . classes at the Technical School as being affiliated with the University.
Other members were also or this opinion. It was sugg-stf-d as an alternative that the ; Council should rccosmise the validity of the drawing Instruction in these two instances, to enable the- students to go up for the pass.
Sir Maurice O'Rorke then moved: "That this Council recognise the tuition at tbe Auckland Technical School by the drawln>» master, and notify the Senate of their recognition, risking that it be TatlliPd." -
This rpsolution was seconded by the Hon. J. A. Tole, and carried unanimously.
