FRUIT AND PRODUCE MAIiKBTS. Tfce local trait and produce markets nave been more than usually brisk during- the past week. Potatoes were very scarce In the beginning or the week, and the market opened at £12 per ton, and was further advanced to £13. Owing, .however, to formers selling direct at lower rates the auctioneers found it necessary to reduce their quotations.. At yesterday's - sales first-class samples were not readily saleable at 12/ pcs cwt, but were heid for that price. Quotations are now nominal at from 10/ to 12/ cwt Supplies of farmers' batter were shorter than last week. Prices are unchanged. Fresh eggs were very scarce at higher prices. Consignments of local fruit have been numerous during. the week, and prices have varied from day to day. It Is pleasing to note that the demand throughout was strong, - and the quality of supplies sent in has been generally food. The foi-l-owing were the' ruling prices at the auction sales yesterday: Field Produce.—Potatoes: Prime, upcountry, £11 to £12 ton; medium, £9 to £10. Onions: Prime, £10 ton; odd lots, Id to l£d lb. Dairy Produce.—Dairy bnttex, special, B*d to 9d lb; ordinary -farmers' 6id to 7d; farmers' bulk, 6d to 6|d; milieu, for export, Bid; factory rolls, lOd. Fresh eggs, 1/1 \o 1/2 dozen. Cheese, farmers', 3Jd to 4d; leaf, for Baeoa: Farmers', 6d to 7d; factory, 7id to Bd. Hams: Farmers', Sd to 7d; factory, for export, 9d. Fruit.—Plums: Japanese, Ogon, 2/ to 3/6 case; Buxbank, special, 3/9 to 4/6; English varieties 3/ to 5/; damsons, 2/6 to 2/9. Apples: Cooking, first quality, 3/ to 4/ bushel case; medium, 2/ to 3/; superior dessert, 5/ to 6/; poor, 2/ to 3/. Pears: Melbourne, Bon Chretien, 14/ to 16/ bushel case; local, cooking, 1/6 to 3/ box; dessert, 3/ to 4/. Peaches: Superior table, o/ to 7/6 box; jam lota, 3/ to 3/6. Grapes, 6id to 1/1 lb, According to quality. Tomatoes: Indoor, 3/ to 4/ box; outdoor, 1/6 to 2/6. Watermelons, Sydney, 12/ to 18/9 dozen. Lemons: Prime, 4/ to 5/ box; poor, unsaleable. Apricots, Thames, 5/6 to S/ box Ponitry.—Hens, fat, 1/6 to 1/9 each; table roosters, heavy, 2/6 to 3/; cockerels, medium 1/3 to 1/9; small and poor, 9d to 1/; chicks, 4d to 8d; ducks, 1/3 to 1/9; turkeys, gobblers 5/ to 15/, hens 3/6 to 8/.
