DIOCESAN GIULS' HIGH SCHOOL. The Council reported that the school haii been established iv accordance with resolution. The Council felt it was most highly privileged to have secured the services of the present staff, who we; doiup •ixcelleut wort. That the deniaud -existed for the school the number of pupils now enrolled fully showed, and the Councilhad every reason to believe that the number would be greatly augmented. WOMEN'S SUFFKAGi. -vJATN DECLINED. Mr T. Greshani moved : "That in the opinion of this Synod it is just and desirable Ut-.it women, as well as men, should be entitled to vote at parish meetings." -Mi: Wresham said that he hoped to convert the Bishop to his way of .tainting. la th'i past it was the eiergy of, Auckland, who opposed the reform, and not the laityBishops Julius and Wilson, and- other eminent men of the. Church, favoured the.reform, and though 'he might not be able to get the reform adopted this session, long as' he was cm the Synod he would bring the matter up. lie did not anticipate that the motion would be carried in view of the Bishop's views as cxpresieiJ in his Charge, because the clergy wer? too polite, or too politic to oppose the Bishop openly. Those of the laity, however, whe favoured the reform had no such fear, and would vote according to their coneclences.(Uproa^.) The Rev. Mr Dv Rieu: I ask your Lordship to protect us from the insinuations of , Mr .Gresham. Whltley seconded the motion, which Messrs Johnston and Greenwood and others supported, Mr Greenwood demanding that the oppositlou should state their objections. A .division was then taken.'-the voting being: Clergy—Ayee noes 27; laity—ayes 23, nous 20. ' ' •'••■•' ;-•'■' ; The mover referred to the lengthy faithful services of Mr Gtould, mentioning that he was trained at -St. John's College ;by Bishop Selwyn, served 43 years in charge of Otahuhu, and was really the first Home Mission" pioneer. . -*■■:'i Mr S. Luke seconded the motion, and supported by Rev. Dr. Purchas, and adopted unanimously. . ■: . ST. JOHN'S COLLEGE. The House then went into committee: to consider the remainder of the accounts, Mr Uptoii in the chair. St. John's College trustees reported that the General Endowment Account showed a. debit balance of. £716 6/. At Purewa cemetery the burials for the .year .have . been 210, .as against 3WJ for the previous year. The receipts' 'wiire £746 6/, and: the, expenditure was £608 17/2; for the previous twelve months the receipts were £903 12/6, and the expenditure was £631 7/4. From the balance to, credit on June 30th, 1003, tht trustees, have .placed £101) to" the account for the purchase of the ground, and £300 to the' fund .for- the maintenance. of the ground. The sum to credit on Juno 30th. 1804, was £261 14/2. The report was passed. '.'.'. HOME MISSION WORK. Mr Collins moved: "That this Synod c6mmends the action of the- Standing Committee in providing-more frequent services in the Home Mission tdistrlcts, aud expresses the hop.c tha,t. they r may .be - able to'complete the proposed scheme for carryIng on the work hi "the Hpkiauga District before nest session of Synod." The motion was supported by severil. speakers and adopted.
