Burns also gave evidence, but in hfc explanation he did hot take credit fw humanitarian motives. The stipendiary told him that his applanation was not satisfactory. ftjjjJH Burns had not been convicted previoujlj; |i of theft, he was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon; ■ James Downey was charged with £«gfl ceiving the dog, knowing it to have bwa\ stolen. He pleaded not guilty, andHUWorship, judging by the facts given by - the witnesses in the charge against Burns, said it was a case of very strong ■ suspicion. However, he had a doubt, arid Downey would.be given the beatftt of it by being discharged.
