Mr Kettle remarked that the gallant conduct of the second officer, who volunteered to swim ashore with the line,' was worthy of high commendation.- Hie ' > olunteerhig to go ashore was the v -neana probably of saving the lives of, if not all, some* of the crew, while it appeared very probable that he would . be drowned in his endeavour to say the lives of bis shipmates.
