LONDON, August 2,

General Kurokl was engaged in a general artillery attack from dawn to sunset on Sunday against the Russian position near Liao-yang. facing Mo-tien-ling.

The Russian foroe consisted of three divisions.

The Japanese centre took an unnamed town, supposed to be Taowan, and captured the Russian

north-east position.

The Japanese left advanced and occupied a position which jeopardised the Russian right. The Jap-

anese right carried a position against superior numbers of infantry, and finished with a brilliant marcn under the enemy's shrapnel.
