DEVONPORT RATING POLL.
UNIMPROVED VALUES SYSTEM .v . . .. RETAINED. '/ . In the poll at Devonport yesterday on . the proposal to rescind the system of rating on the unimproved values of land and revert to the old system of rating on the annual values of all property, W7 ' votes were recorded out of a roll pf 1240. Of this number 415 were against the proposal to rescind and 176 in favour of it. The unimproved values system of rating was therefore sustained by a majority of 239 votes —eqmvaleat to more than two to one majority. There were six informal votes. Three years ago, when the.unimproved vsißes system was first adopted, the figure* , were 356 for, and 109 against—a majorMr George Fowlds, M.H3L, made reference to the result of the poll during his leasehold meeting last night in &• George's Hall, when he remarked th»t in view of the influence of the mayor and member of the district, -ojko had strongly advocated reversion to the old system, the victory for the values waj; an encomragirg- one.
