SERIOUS TRAMCAR ACCIDENT.
AN EXTRAORDINARY COINCIDENCE
MISS ANNE CALEY INJURED.
A tram accident of a serious nature occurred in Hobson-street between five and half-past five last evening, Miss Anne Jane Caley being seriously injured. Miss Caley is a. member of the Caley family of 'whom Jour were injured in the tram accident on the King3_and line last Christmas Eve. Miss Caley had just left the residence of Miss Alice Rimmer in Hobson-street and was crossing the street when she noticed a ear coming up from town. She walked slowly along the side of the down line to allow the car to pass, and evidently the noise of this car prevented her from hearing another car approach on the down-line. Buckley, the motorman on the down car, which was from Arch Hill, sounded his gong continuously on seeing Miss Caley near the line, but she did not see or hear the ear until it was close to her. She then apparently became confused and attempted to cross the line. The emergency brake was at once applied by the motorman, but it wa3 too late to prevent an accident, and the front of the car struck Miss Caley, throwing her to the ground, clear of the ear. Miss Caley was picked up in an unconscious condition, and was carried into Mr Gilbert's shop, where she was attended by Doctors Walker and McDowell, who had been sent for by the officials of the Tramway Company. It was found that Miss Caley was suffering from concussion of the brain. She was removed to Miss Rimmeris residence, where she now lies in an unconscious condition. Though Miss Caley's injuries are very serious, good hopes are entertianed for her reco v erv.
