SCARCITY OF LABOUR.
WELLINGTON WORK DELAYED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. There is a dearth of plasterers in Wellington, and the building works in progress are consequently kept back, amongst them being the town hall, the completion of which may run into January of next year. One-half of the plasterers engaged on the town hall here have been imported from Sydney and Melbourne, and they are said to outshine colonial talent at all points. More men are wanted, but the contractors cannot get them. In the meantime the carpenters are hampered, and the progress of the building is greatly retarded. It is explained that a great many plasterers had left the colony at the time of the building boom in Melbourne and Sydney not very long ago, as they could not so easily obtain employment in this colony then as they can now.
