FRIENDLY SOCIETIES' CONFERENCE.

(By Telegraph.—Owh Correspondent) WELLINGTON, this day., To-morrow afternoon the first conference of delegates representing friendly societies from Auckland to Invercargill is to sit in this city. During last- session of Parliament it was intended by the Premier to bring forward amendments to the Friendly Societies Act, but he was asked by a deputation from the friendly societies to stay his hand until a conference of delegates had considered the Act. The Premier consented, and the coming conference is the result. It is estimated that there are about 45,000 benefit members of friendly societies in New Zealand to-day.
