POLICE COURT.—THIS DAY.
■ il (Before Mr. Blomfield, S.M.) A Slave to Drink: James McNevin, who was convicted of drunkenness for the second time within six months, was threatened with a prohibition order, but told His Worship that such a course was useless, as he would get drink in spite of the order. "I'm a slave to it," he confessed. A fine of 10/ and costs was imposed, and McNevin was warned fhat another appearance would result in a prohibition order being tried. A first offending drunkard was convicted and discharged. A Canine Nuisance: Matilda V. Regan was "fined £ 1 and costs for being the owner of a dangerous dog. The complaint was laid by Thomas H. Barwell, who said that as he cycled past Mrs. Regan's, house in New street the dog rushed at his legs. It missed them, but got mixed up with the front wheel, witness being thrown into the roadway and bruised, while damage amounting to 10/ was done to the machine. Alleged False Pretences: A charge of obtaining £ 9 from Frank W. Smith at Auckland was laid against Edgar Watt. Accused did not appear, but telegraphed that he was unable to attend, and a week's adjournment was agreed to.
