POLICE COURT.—THIS DAY.

A Drunkon Beggar. — Patrick O'Shaugnessy was committed for 14 days' hard labour for begging in Albrrt street. His plea was that he begged when he was a "bit boozed." It appeared that accused accosted a plain clothes constable amongst a number of other persons, asking for money. When his clothing was searched 9/9J was found upon him. Two Drunkards.—Georg-e Saiidemann waa fined £2, or 14 days', for drunkenness, his fourth offence; and John Hayes 5/. A Difficulty Surmounted.—The police produced a telegram from the Education Department in connection with the charge against James Butler of absconding from service while licensed out from Stoke Orphanage, arid His Worship remanded the accused on bail for a month. The Department was willing to allow Butler his liberty if he was living respectably and in good employment.—Mr Reed, on Ms behalf, said Butler was going into good employment immediately. Maintenance. — Jacaes S. Jones, charged ■with disobeying an ord-er for the maintenance of his wife and two sons, was sentenced to a month's imprisonment, suspended for 14 days.
