Mr. Chamberlain lias assured tlie Birmingham licensed victuallers that he concurred with them in the necessity of the. earliest legislation to prevent licensing magistrates appropriating- publican's property without compensation. The "Daily Chronicle" warns Mr Chamberlain not to expect that Mr. Deakin will make concessions to the English exporter detrimental to the Australian manufacturer, even if the English consumer is taxed for the benefit of colonial produce.
