MEMBERS.
(Received 10.S a.m.)
SYDNEY, this day
The House is (at 8.30 a.m.) stdl sitting discussing the Premier's motion for leave to introduce a bill to take a referendum en the reduction of members' question. The proposal is that the electors should say whether the House should consist of 30, DO, 100 or 125 members. The amendment, introduced by Mr Carruthers, to the effect that a bill be introduced fixing the reduction, and afterwards submitting it as a referendum, was ruled out of order. The Premier promises to make a call of the House for the second reading. There have only been three calls of the Legislative Assembly since 1858: a fourth would have been made in 1901, but lapsed, the Government going out of otiice before the time fixed. (Received 1.20 p.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The Assembly, at 11.30 a.m., agreed to the introduction of the Referendum Bill, which was accordingly read a first time. The House then adjourned.
