(Received 10.7 a.m.) TOWNSVILLE, this day. A seaman on, board the steamer Innamenaka has been taken to the hospital suffering from plague. BRISBANE, this day. The Full Court found for the defendant in a special case in which the Colonial Sugar Compauy claimed from the Collector of Customs the return of certain excise duty which they had paid under protest on a large quantity of sugar AA r hen the CommonAvealth duties came into operation. MELBOURNE, September 4. As the result of the conference between Sir E, Barton, Mr. Copelanr (who represents the CommonAvealth on the Pacific Board), and Mr. Reynolds (general manager), Sir E. Barton stated that satisfactory arrangements had been come to as regards the Pacific cable business. He added that it seems likely iioav that no conference with the other partners in the cable will be necessary. SYDNEY, September 4. A tragedy has occurred at' Manilla, in the north of this colony. An old man named John Hines Avas left by his Avife sitting on a chair beside the door. She returned after a short absence, and found her husband in the same position, with his head split open. He Avas dead. The police arrested a swagsman after running the gauntlet of several shots which he fired.
