POLICE COURT—THIS DAY.

and Mr John T. Hough, J.F.)

Drunkards.—Two first offenders were on the drunkards' list, and one who did not apuear was fined. 5/, the other being tlischalged with a caution. A Lazy Gumdigger.—Harry Johnston pleaded not-guilty to being an idle and dis-_ orderly person having insufficient lawful means of support. It was alleged that five months ago Johnston, who was a gumdigger, came to Auckland with some money, quickly dissipated it, and nad been loafing in the streets since. He had refused work and appeared to be too lazy. Johnston had nothing to say to these allegations, and he was committed for a month's hard labour.

By-laws Broken. —Patrick O'Shea was fined 5/ and costs, 6/, for leaving a cab unattended In Queen street; while Leonard Harrop, who was charged with obstructing a footpath, and also with driving around the corner of Karangahape road and Cobden street at greater than a walking pace, was fined 2/6 and 7/6 costs in each case.
