This afternoon Oapt. Plunkett and Mr Laird surveyed the barque- Concordia, which was driven* across the harbour this morning under circumstances reported in our shipping column. They state that so far as can be ascertained the vessel did not take the ground, and the hull is apparently undamaged, as the vessel is making no water. It will not be necessary to dock her. The circumstances were to be reported to the Collector of Customs this afternoon. A new firm has iggun operations at Newmarket under the style of "The Union Timber Co." It advertises its scope of operations to-day. A specialty of the firm is the making of cricket bats. It has an order for 300 already in hand. The willow is obtained from Gisborne, and the locally made bats are in extensive use. The firm also intends to make a feature of toy-constructing. Mr E. J. Matthews' tender (£7601) has been accepted for a factory for Mr \W. X Tucker in Severne-street, off 1 Khyber Pass.
