BIRKENHEAD WATER SUPPLY.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —A letter iD your issue of 22nd inst. from the Secretary of the Birkenhead Burgesses Association appeared and is worthy of a few comments which may be of interest to the ratepayers in the district affected. The presumed interest in the Northcote single scheme may be attributed to purely selfish motives, inasmuch that should the North cote scheme have been carried, there was a chance of some of the members of the Birkenhead Burgesses' Association obtaining a supply for their own convenience without the privilege of paying a water rate at Birkenhead. The remarks re arbitration show such lack of knowledge and good taste that it ia needless to reply farther. If there has been any fumbling in the matter it has been on the part of the Burgesses' Association, to whose interference all through the negotiations may be attributed the non-success of the combined scheme. —I am, etc., M.H.
