SPEECH BY THE KING
A SAD INCIDENT
LONDON, July
Despite the showers which fell during the day Belfast was gaily decorated for the King's visit.
Replying to the Corporation's address the King said:— "I hope my people, while cherishing their own''characteristics' and ideals, may engage in friendly rivalry in the paths of peace which is the true source of national prosperity and Imperial greatness." Replying to 50 other addresses he said:— .. "My highest ambition is to follow in my mother's footsteps and work for the good of my people. The prosperity of Ireland, the maintenance of peace among, the nations, will be ray constant aim." . ~',... ..•■■•.■ The King unveiled the Victoria memorial statue and opened the new Victoria Hospital. . . . An old woman; breaking throiiifh the soldiers', cordon,'rushed to shake hands with His.
