The following is Captain Edwin's weather forecast for 24 hours from 9 a.m. this day:—"Moderate westerly winds; glaiss rise; tides moderate." A narrow escape from a serious accident befell Mr O'Brien, manager of the firm of E. Reynolds and Co., this morning. A cart belonging to the Penrose Milk Co. came down Durham-street into Queen-street, and made across to the proper side of the road. Mr O'Brien was cycling down Queen-street, and by some means got caught between one of the cart's wheels and the horse. The latter reared, and, coming down, crushed Mr O'Brien and his machine to the ground. Mr E. Betts was standing near by. and he picked up the cyclist and revived him. Fortunately, the only damage sustained by Mr O'Brien appears to be some bruised ribs and a shattered bicycle. A ■movement has been started to erect a fruit-preserving and fish and meat canning factory at Herekino. Mr Diver, of Hokianga, is the moving spirit, and' there is said to be a likelihood that the venture will be undertaken at an early date. For influenza and colds doctors recommend WOLFE'S ELENAPPS.
