ONEHUNGA.
The Onehunga Borough Council met last evening. His Worship the Mayc-i (Mr D. A. Sutherland) occupied the rb'cJi , .
Before proceeding with the business of the evening, the Mayor referred to the recent marriage of Cr. Rish worth, and on behalf of the Council presented Mr and Mrs Rlshworth with a email token of the esteem ia which Mr Rishworth's services to .the Council were held. Lie (the ilayor) had much pleasure in handing to Or. Kishworth the accompanying case (silver mounted set of carvers), with all β-ood wisnes from his bicther Councillors. (Cheers.) --• Cr. Rishwcrth replied in suitable terms.
The Town Clerk (Captain Richardson) was gi anted three mouths" leave of absence. A petition for a footpath on the west side of Syinouds street was referred .to the Streets Committee.—A request wfie received, for a lamp at Arthur strwt i'.iitl Victoria stieet junction. It was lesolvod that the previous promise be adhered to. H was also resolved that the Gas Company be requested to see more particularly that (ill pas lamps in Queen street are kept burning.—A letter of complaint against borough servants from Sir Price was referred to the v.W 'ped offen-flf-rs. —a complaint from Mr Geo. Davis regarding fiaraage to property along Mount Smart'road was referred to the Streets Committee.
A letter was received from Mr Massey. M.H.It., conveying his willingness to assist the: member for Manukau in obtaining from Hie Minister for Marine improvements w the Manukau harbour. A letter was received from Mr M. M. KirKbride, M.H.R., detailing efforts of-himself and Mr Massey to obtain from the Minister tor Marine a promise to remove a rock situated near No. 4 buoy, in Manukau harbour, ricci also his Intention to press for the furtlier assistance of s.s. Tutanckai 'U dredging and clearing Onehun-a berthage. ' It was resolved to write to 'he Minister for Railways asking for a train to communicate between Onehunga and Penrose junction to convey pupils to Onehunga Hign School arriving at Penrose by Waikatotrnin. Mr 11. Morris resigned his position as an employee of the Council.— Accepted. . A request for a donation of £Jo towaras metalling certain roads by the One-tree Hi" Domain Bonrrt was declined. U( . For the position of man in charge of *«• Smart scoria pits 33 applications were receved. ; Mr W. Wade was appointed. In case of claims by Messrs Coofeson, Mccdy, and others for compensation owing to alterations in levels of Queen street, ue boiough solicitors (Messrs R»feUan£ Ccmpbell) advised the Council t'jnt they are not liable, and it was decided to inform tne claimants of this decision. ~ It was moved by the Mayor. "That apP» cations from members of the Bench for fees be declined, and that onij such expenses as are provided for oy ■« be granted."—This was seconded by w Rowo and carried. . tt< Cr.
