THE WOOLWICH EXPLOSION
GEEAT DAMAGE
LOXDOX, June 10
The explosion at Woolwich, by which 14 moil were killed and 13 injured, is attributed to grit during the process of removing the stack forming the cavity for the exploder.
The King has sent a message of sympathy to the relatives of those deceased and to the sufferers by injuries.
Tlip War Office report; states that out of HO 10in Lyddite shells filled overnight seven iire missing; The fores of the explosion threw many of the shells to a distance without exploding them. The Lyddite in the melting pots in the adjoining building did not explode.
Many who were some distance from the building received wounds.
Other accounts state that the missing shells were recovered. Several of them demolished walls at a distance, killing and injuring people. None of them were filled with exploders.
