DECIMAL COINAGE
REFORT ADOPTED
MELBOURNE. June ]9.
Despite the opposition of the Oovernment who sought to make the adoption of the decimal system dependent on its adoption by Britain, the House by 21 to 18 adopted the Decimal Coinage Committee's report. Subsequently Sir E. Bavton submitted a series of resolutions urging the adoption of the metric system with the least possible delay within the Empire, and stating that the most convenient method of obtaining it would be for the Imperial Government to enact its compulsory use within Britain, and for all other parts of the Empire, whose Legislatures approve. These resolutions were carried.
