Mr J. J. Craig was a passenger to Sydney by the mail steamer Ventura. Dr. and Mrs Kenny, of New South Wales, were passengers for Sydney by the Ventura. Amongst the passengers who passed through by the mail steamer Ventura for Sydney to-day was the Rev. Dr. Broyler, Roman Catholic Bishop of Samoa, who is making his periodical visitation to the portion of the Solomon Group owned by Germany. News has been, received by the mail of the death in San Francisco of Mr W. T. Webb, District Deputy Grandmaster of the 1.0.0. F., A.C., formerly well-known in Auckland. Mr Webb, who died on March 14th, was also Past Chief Ranger of the Foresters, and ex-president of the Friendly Societies' Conference. A private cable from Mr Alex. J. Laurie, of Onehunga, sent from Albany (WA) states that he has sailed on board the sj_. Moravian for South Africa. Before leaving here he expressed his intention of visiting the Transvaal and Orange Colonies with a view to taking part in agricultural and pastoral pursuits. Mr Richard E. Graham, formerly of Auckland, died recently in Perth. He was the youngest son of*the late Mr G. Graham, and brother of Mr G. S. Graham. In Auckland he was well known as an insurance agent, but prior to his death he had been employed in the sheriff's office in Perth, Western Australia. The cause of death was heart failure. He was buried in the Karrakatta cemetery with Masonic honours. His wife survives him, but there are no children. Con3ul-General Dillingham paid an official visit to the U.S. gunboat Wheeling yesterday,, the visit being a return to the one paid to him by Lieut-Com-mander 3_linett. Mr Dillingham lunch- . ed with the officers, and on. leaving the gunboat was saluted with a discharge of nine guns. Mr J. T. Julian and Mr Brigham paid an official visit to the craft yesterday on behalf of the Harbour Board, and welcomed the Adsitors to the harbour. To-day Lieut.-Com-mander Minett repaid the Mayor's visit to him. > "down under." Messrs. Cousins and Cousins, coachbuilders, of .Lome-street, entertained their employees to dinner at Dallen's dining rooms yesterday evening, in honour of the marriage of Mr W. J. Cousins, the senior member of the firm. Between forty and fifty sat down to an excellent repast provided in host Baizley's best style. Mr J. Wither, foreman of the painting department, on behalf of the employees, presented Mr W. J.■• Cousins with a pair of handsome entree dishes. In doing so he referred to the cordial relations that had always existed between* the employers and employees of the firm, and trusted that they might continue for many years to come. Mr J. Tonkin, an ex-employee, asked Mr Cousins to', accept a very handsome silver basket, which' he said was subscribed for by several of the old hands, who sent, through him their congratulations and best wishes for the happiness of their old employer. Mr Cousins suitably replied thanking the donors for their beautiful gifts, which he said would always serve to remind him of them ~riiiilii _\i__iVii_i»liJ.' During tKe evening songs Were given by Messrs. Kinner, Hooten, Carter, Rowe, Booker, Howell, Littieproud, and Cousins. Mr Leo Shepherd gave some very clever selections on the mouth organ. A very enjoyable even- I ing was brought, to a close by the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." •
