Harvard and Yale, the two best-known American colleges, have challenged Oxford and Cambridge to an athletic meet mg this year. The Oxford and Cambridge lacrosse team will visit America in June.

The principal attraction in Invercargill on Easter Monday will be the axemen's , carnival, for which record entries have been received. The meeting is a championship one, at which all theleading , axemen and sawyers' in the colony triii compete. The prize money totals £200, together with six gold medals and £50 worth of trophies. C. W. Hart, as an amateur crosscountry runner, has succeeded in com--pletinghis task of covering 2000 miles in 31 days on foot. On starting on ttie , last day he had 1931 miles to his credit; and covering 69 miles in 13hrS iSmits, ■ brought his record up to 2000 miles, with an hour j-.nd 42min. to spare, his. running time being limited to 15 hours per dayT*
