WELLINGTON CRICKET.
MIDLAND WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WELLINGTON, this day.
The curtain was finally rung down on the season's senior cricket on Saturday _af-ten-oca, when the Midland and "Wellington fought cut a sensational finish, the former winning by one run only. Wellington, with three wickets down for 63, and wanting 13. to win, compiled 135. Hickson (41) and Goie (24) were the leading scorers, Ashbolt and Mahoney also reaching double figures. Hickson played well, aud when dismissed only 15 runs were wanted to achieve victory, with three wickets to fall. The tall wagged strongly, Upham being the destroying agent. Williams behind the sticks was seen at his best, while the ground fielding of his t^ain was capital. Upham bagged six wickets for 46, Holdsworth two for _8. and Stephenson one for 30. The Midland team has come out of the season's ordeal with an unbeaten record, namely, six wins. Wellington had four wins and two losses, both against Midland; Phoenix two wins and four losses; and the Old Boys six losses. There was great excitement and much popular enthusiasm at the champion's retaining their laurels.
