LIVELY MEETING OK THE COUNCIL

The recommendation of the committee was eventually carried. Another scene took place when Mr Ross objected to the Council making appointments in committee. A heated debate ensued on tbe question or subsidies to the hands, and Mr Slevin s motion was carried rescinding resolutions "anting £60 each to the Martha and Waihi bands The Council is to go into the question of forming a municipal baud. "The medical officer reported two cases or typhoid under distressing circumstances. The Council decided to destroy the house and bedding. The Premier promised, if the necessary information were given, to forward it to the Swiss expert for a report on electric lighting. A wire was received from the Chief Engiue'er re the award on the main road question aud caused much debate. The wire practically stated that the Borough had no I control over the main road to Waikino. also I increasing the Borough's proportion of maintenance. The Council considered the award was violated, and the present action j most unjust, nnd decided to communicate with the Government at once. Mr Kensington wrote that the present municipal site would be vested in the Council.., The Miners' Union asked that preference Ito unionists be granted. Mr Herries promised to assist ib the matter of the Waihi Beach-road. The following appointmeuts were made: Mr W. Parkinson, night watchman: Mr Wallnut, valuer.
