ARGENTINE MAIZE.
ARRIVAL OF THE MARGARET-
After a passage of 49 days from Buenos Ayres (says tbe b>dne? ■News") the steamer Margaret arrived at Sydney. The Margaret is rather a fine specimen of cargo-car-rier, and has on board a large shipment of Argentine maize. Altogether the shipment totals .800 tons. It is understood that she is one ot several vessels coming to Australia with maize from the Argentine. On the voyage the ship encountered some heavy weather. Speaking about the Argentine, an officer of the ship told an "Evening News" reporter that business was very -brisk out there. The export of cattle and grain was proceeding merrily, a great trade being carried on between Buenos Ayres and the Continent, also with England. During recent months, however, the Cape had received many thousands of pounds worth of Argentine exports, and that trade was still going on. With regard to the prospect of regular trade being established between Sydney and the Argentine, it was said that there was not njuch indication at present of teuch a thing. Certafinly, there were several cargoes now afloat for Australia, but they were what might be called chance lines. If there had been no drought in parts of Australia, no doubt the Argentine grain would not be required.
Continuing, the officer said that there were splendid facilities for loading vessels at Buenos Ayres—a ship /could be loaded very quickly— if the people there were inclined to pay attention to the ship. Sometimes they did not. It is rather an expensive place to go to. The work on the wharves is done chiefly by Italians, and wages are not what can be termed high. The Margaret v. as laoded with parcels consisting of 55 tons, and it is understood that portion of the cargo is for Queensland. She will discharge, ait Parbury's Wharf, Miller's Point, and is in -the agency of Messrsi Peabody and Company.
