WHANGAREI ITEMS.

fßy Telegraph.— Pres. Association.)

WHANGAREI, this day

At Whitehouse's biochromoscope entertainment last night a "\film caught fire, and a panic was narrowly averted, as many people made a rush for the doors. Several women fell down, and some fainted. A prominent resident was instrumental in calming the people, and the entertainment then proceeded. Beyond destruction of the film no damage was done.

Constable McDonnell made a clever capture. A Maori charged with stealing- cash was traced through a twoshilling- piece. The horse sales were the best ever held. Draughts sold up to £38; hacks, £26; light hacks, £30. A large number of young horses were bought for Auckland.
