KAIPARA ELECTORATE.

A meeting of electors of the new Kaipara electorate was held at Dargaville on Wednesday evening last, Mr F Day presiding. Mr E. Harding, convener, detailed the circumstances leading up to the formation of the electorate, stating that, the movement originated with the Hobson County Council, who had made representations to the boundary commissioners. He went on to say that it was thought an effort shotild be made to secure the return of a local candidate, and the meeting had been called with a view to securing a popular opinion as to the man with the best chances of success. Mr F. Dargaville moved: "That the time is now opportune to send to Parliament a local man." He referred to the fact that owing to the division of the district the Northern Wairoa had always returned an East Coast man, and stated that the Wairoa should now bury party feeling, unite, and send their representative to Parliament. The resolution was unanimously agreed to. It was further decided, "That this meeting elect a committee as representing the whole of the Wairoa, and that their duty be to call meetings in each centre with a view to getting an expression of opinion as to the most suitable man to represent us." Conveners for the different centres were then appointed, meetings to be held prior to August 31. CHRISTCHURCH, this day. DUNEDIN, this day. Mr Robert Chisholm has decided to contest one of the City seats at the general election.
