Further rain fell during the night, but in the earlier part of the morning the weather cleared sufficiently to allow resumption of play in the match against Surrey at Kennington Oval. / When play was stopped by rain on Monday afternoon the Australians had lost one wicket for 87 runs. The not outs of Aloud ay, Trumper and Hill, continued their innings. After adding a single to his overnight score Hill was smartly run out by Hayes, who made a quick return from third man. Two wickets for 93, Trumper 52. Gregory came next, and play became more lively, Trumper displaying fine driving powers. The bowling was of f harmless character, and the wicket, which had not yet become difficult, favoured fast scoring. At 159, towards which Trumper had contributed SI and Gregory 32, Dawson replaced Richardson, who had bowled hitherto. A separation came when the score stood at 182 Abel catching Gregory at Point off Hayward. The partnership had yielded B*9 runs in sixty-five minutes' play. Three wickets for 182, Truinper 97. Darling hHpd the vacancy, and assisted by Trumper passed his century. The young Sydneyite was caught by Hayes low down in the slips off a Lumping ball from Hayward. He had played a good innings, marred by two chances. He took 160 minutes to make 100 runs. Four wickets for IS7. Noble joined his captain, and at the luncheon adjournment the score stood —Four wickets for 208. Darling, 13; Noble 4. On play resuming- Baker took the place of Bush in the field, the latter suffering from sore throat. Darling increased his score to nineteen, and was then dismissed by a nice catch by Brockwell at long-off from,Hayward. Five for 216. The weather -\vas now dull and cheerless, and bitterly cold.
